Your Skincare Guide in Summer

26th Nov 2019

Summer brings with it balmy days at the beach, afternoon BBQ’s and in most cases, a cranking of the air conditioner in the car, at home and in the office. Whilst our vision for our skin this season may be radiant, tanned and clear, the reality is that prolonged sun exposure, increased sweating and a change of temperature can cause all types of issues for our complexions. Whilst we’re unable to change the weather, we can make a few tweaks to our skincare and beauty regimes, to ensure we’re using the best possible products for the heat.

Do Away with Heavy Skin-Care Routines

If you’re not wearing a heavy coat outside, neither should your skin. Like your Summer wardrobe, your skin can also benefit by removing some of the layers that were necessary in Winter. Consider replacing your heavy-duty moisturizer with a lightweight option such as Sukin Facial Moisturiser. Simply cleanse your skin, then apply by gently massaging into your face, neck and décolletage.

Hydration Station

When the air is hot and dry outside the moisture can be sucked right out of your skin, meaning good old H2O is your best friend when it comes to keeping yourself hydrated. People who spend a lot of time in air-conditioned buildings are also affected so it’s a great idea to keep track of how much water you’re having per day, aiming for about 2 litres.

Combine your Sunscreen & Moisturiser

To ensure you’re always protected and sun safe, it’s a great idea to adopt a product into your skincare regime that includes sunscreen. An easy way to do this is to replace your usual daily moisturiser to one with SPF, which not only shields you on the day applied but works to slow down the ageing process. Cetaphil UVA/UVB Moisturiser Defence SPF 50+ is a broad-spectrum option that’s specifically formulated to provide the highest level of protection for sensitive skin.

Make Space for Shade

Whether it’s a wide rimmed hat, sunglasses, protective clothing or a beach umbrella, it’s important to ensure you’re implementing shade and are mindful of how much direct sun your skin’s getting. You don’t have to wear a long-sleeved shirt and avoid the sun completely, but taking steps such as escaping the mid-day sun and having breaks under trees may be the step you need to take to skip a sunburn.

Exfoliation Time

Summer is the season to exfoliate where we need extra help to get rid of dead skin cells and excess dirt and grime. L'Oreal Pure Clay Exfoliating Scrub features micro-grains to smooth skin and refine pores, containing 3 pure clays with red algae extract to cleanse and exfoliate the skin. It works to unclog pores, and maintains an even skin tone, allowing moisturising creams to hydrate the skin more effectively.

Have a Plan B

Let’s say you forgot your sunscreen, fell asleep on the beach and woke up a few hours later to a nasty burn. Unfortunately, it happens to the best of us so having a plan b in your toolbox at the ready can make a not so good situation much more bearable, such as Ego Sunsense Aftersun Cooling Spray. Refreshing after-sun relief helps to help relieve, soothe and cool sun damaged skin and works to restore your skin’s natural moisture, which is essential for healing your burn.

Don’t Forget Your Lips!

As the sun can be incredibly drying, it’s important to make sure you keep your lips soft, smooth and protected by swapping the lipstick for a rich lip balm with SPF. Blistex Lip Balm Ultra 30+ is a great fit as it provides lips a super level of protection without leaving them feeling heavy, just don’t forget to reapply when you’re outside!
