Description
Magnoplasm paste is a drawing ointment containing glycerol and dried magnesium sulfate.
The glycerol acts as a humectant which means it attracts water to itself and magnesium sulphate works via osmosis.
The magnesium sulfate is dried so does not contain any water and when applied to the skin exhibits a strong osmotic effect and glycerol is hygroscopic, meaning it has a strong affinity for water and thus will draw out moisture from the inflamed area (as well as the atmosphere).
Magnoplasm paste is “tried and trusted by generations of Australians” having been manufactured and sold in Australia since the 50’s.
The magnesium sulphate glycerol paste is an effective treatment :
- for boils
- whitlows
- carbuncles.
It is also frequently used to remove splinters, thorns and other imbedded foreign bodies.
